Theory of Transition Dynamics of Localized Electrons Induced by Lattice Relaxation in Excited States

چکیده
Dynamics of the nonradiative transition in excited states of localized electrons is studied and clari ed. The nonradiative transition is induced by an o -diagonal interaction between the two states around the potential crossing region. We propose a model for the lattice relaxation by extending the quantum damping theory to a two level system and analyze the transition dynamics numerically. The nonradiative transition goes on two steps; rst during the lattice relaxation process as the phonon wave packet passes the crossing point, then from the relaxed excited state through thermal excitation or quantum tunneling. The di erence of transition dynamics for the amount of lattice relaxation is also discussed.

متن کاملCoherent dynamics of photoinduced nucleation processes
We study the dynamics of initial nucleation processes of photoinduced structural change of molecular crystals. In order to describe the nonadiabatic transition in each molecule, we employ a model of localized electrons coupled with a fully quantized phonon mode, and the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for the model is numerically solved. We found a minimal model to describe the nucleation i...

Dispersed pump-dump-probe spectroscopy has the ability to characterize and identify the underlying ultrafast dynamical processes in complicated chemical and biological systems. This technique builds on traditional pump-probe techniques by exploring both ground- and excited-state dynamics and characterizing the connectivity between constituent transient states. We have used the dispersed pump-du...

The dynamics of two-dimensional small-polaron formation at ultrathin alkane layers on a silver(111) surface have been studied with femtosecond time- and angle-resolved two-photon photoemission spectroscopy. Optical excitation creates interfacial electrons in quasi-free states for motion parallel to the interface. These initially delocalized electrons self-trap as small polarons in a localized s...
متن کاملOn the insensitivity of the non-adiabatic relaxation of solvated electrons to the details of their local solvent environment
Utilizing the charge-transfer-to-solvent transition of Na , we measure the excited-state lifetime of the solvated electron (e s ) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) in each of three different well-defined local solvent environments: an isolated THF cavity, a THF cavity with a sodium atom located one solvent shell away, and a THF cavity with a sodium atom in the first solvent shell. We find that the excit...
